I applied now what?
Com2Kid’s Journal, [Getting a job] Advice request + complaints:
I am coming out of school with a year of internship experience; I took the internships hoping that finding a job after I graduated would be easier. Is it? Not by much.
I have gotten a fair number of inquirers about my resume. Send back information. No call back.
Here is an example of one such interchange. I really want an opportunity for this company; what in the world did I do wrong? It is a bit long; I was basically asked to give a list of improvements to their website, should I have responded with solely in depth technical improvements?
The company in question is Redfin.
Fortunately for Devlin while we may sometimes be slow to respond to e-mail we are always watching what is being said about Redfin in the blog world. Devlin seems like a pretty keen guy and I can certainly relate to the situation he is so I left him a comment, Hi from Redfin with feedback on response times and his suggestions on how to improve the site
Reminder: We’re hiring! College candidates as well as industry candidates.
(FWIW, I just filed a bug because that college recruiting page is missing a html title!)

A bug that was fixed during the site refresh I notice!
Of course now the big discussion in my journal is which tie should I wear.
I wasn’t this nervous interviewing for Microsoft! I think the difference is that I know I can make a difference at Redfin, actually contribute to something that will be seen by people. Hopefully that comes through during my interview. :)
You’re not in my interview loop, but I hope to see you there anyway! I hope the slush isn’t too dangerous, drive safe tomorrow morning.
After this is all over, one way or the other, I’ll do a nice write-up of how I got this far.
As an aside: I just had the realization a few minutes ago that 2/5ths of my tie collection is nerdy, one is a Star Wars tie, and another one has a computer mouse on it….

Amendment to my previous comment, be safe biking to work. :)

Don’t wear a tie. Just wear whatever your comfortable in. Most people at work dress pretty casual. For instance I normally just wear jeans and a t-shirt.
Yeah, I’m on two other interview loops tomorrow and have a flight out to San Francisco later in the afternoon plus a few other meetings. My schedule is pretty full :).
No biking in the winter, too wet.

This is Seattle, it is never too wet. :) The sooner you embrace the truth, the sooner you shall be free! :)
I only have black jeans with me, hmm. Oh well, black it is, not the best color scheme, normally I prefer something lighter in color.
This is the problem with having to maintain two wardrobes, things get mixed up. Half my clothes are up at college, the other half are down here at my family’s home in Seattle. It seems I never have access to the proper half!
Frisco is always a blast.
