Recently in the New York Times, One City’s Home Sellers Do Better on Their Own:

The conclusion, in a study to be released today based on home-sales data from 1998 to 2004 in Madison, Wis., is that people in that city who sold their homes through real estate agents typically did not get a higher sale price than people who sold their homes themselves. When the agent’s commission is factored in, the for-sale-by-owner people came out ahead financially.

There’s an interest comment on Craigslist in John Cook’s Zillow post, :

It is high time there is another other choice to market one’s Real Property assets. When I posted at cgraigslist, my competition kept having my posts removed, so that was pure sabotage…at least at zillow, I own my ‘for sale’ post, not my competition or a multiple listing service…

Other sellers can be pretty vicious if they’re flagging down listings!
